ILOILO City ā€“ The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) named three suspects in the robbery of a jewelry store on Saturday.

They were Kenneth Doyodoy, Madred Batnag and Angelo Cariaga alias Marvin Kasoy Tawanga, all of Mountain Province.

Some P10 million worth of jewelry were stolen from Aljun Jewelry Store at Gaisano Guanco department store.

The suspectsā€™ records at the Iloilo Corporate Inn where they had stayed helped in their identification, said Senior Superintendent Henry BiƱas, ICPO director.

Iloilo Corporate Inn is adjacent to Gaisano Guanco. The suspects used the fire exit of the inn to get to Gaisano Guanco, initial investigation showed. They ripped open Gaisano Guancoā€™s galvanized iron roof.

BiƱas said video recordings of the innā€™s security cameras also helped the police identify the suspects.

ā€œIā€™m optimistic that this case will soon be solved,ā€ he said.

Aljun Jewelry Store is owned by the 32-year-old Langlin Hu of this city.

It was Cariaga who made a reservation at the inn on Feb. 18. He identified himself as Marvin Kasoy Tawanga.

ā€œThis group is operating nationwide. They target mostly pawnshops and jewelry stores. We are coordinating with the police of other regions to get more information about the suspects,ā€ said BiƱas.

He did not discount the possibility that the suspects had local contacts.

Aside from jewels, Aljun Jewelry Store also lost P70,000 cash.

The burglary was discovered by Gaisano Guanco security guard Christopher Gumayao who opened the department store around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Aljun Jewelry Storeā€™s vault was moved to the Gaisano Gauncoā€™s grocery section where it was forcibly opened. Gaisanoā€™s security cameras, however, failed to record the robbery; these had been switched off.

The suspects booked a room at the inn for a wee ā€“ from Feb. 18 to 25. But they left on Feb. 24./PN
