KALIBO, Aklan – After 10 years of hiding, the No. 1 most wanted person in Aklan has been arrested.

The 30-year-old murder suspect Ronald Renton of Barangay Poblacion was caught in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental around 12:53 a.m. on Friday.

Elements of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) Trackers Team nabbed Renton on the strength of an arrest warrant that Judge Aragona Biliran of the Regional Trial Court Branch 9 in this capital town issued on Feb. 5, 2008.

The court did not recommend a bail bond for Renton’s temporary liberty.

Renton is facing a murder charge under Criminal Case No. 8486 along with three others who remain at large.

Renton and the three others were accused of having a hand in a murder incident in Barangay Mabilo in 2006, according to Inspector Angelito De Jose of the APPO Trackers Team.

Police spotted Renton’s tricycle parked along Cuadra Street in Bacolod City before his arrest.

The APPO Trackers Team coordinated with the Bacolod City Police Office Police Station 4 for the entrapment operation.

Renton denied the allegations against him and said he was not the subject of the arrest warrant.

Hindi daw siya si Ronald Renton sa warrant of arrest,” De Jose added.

Renton – who also faces a frustrated homicide charge under Criminal Case No. 8480 – was detained at the Aklan Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Nalook. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
