BACOLOD City – The Office of the Ombudsman will investigate the expenses in the three-day year-end activity of the Bacolod City Government Employees Union (BCGEU).
The investigation stemmed from a Jan. 8 letter that print columnist Edgar Cadagat sent to the Ombudsman questioning the P8-million budget for BCGEU’s assessment activity on Dec. 27 to 29, 2017.
In a Jan. 26 letter that officer-in-charge Sarah Jo Vergara of the Ombudsman-Visayas addressed to Cadagat, the investigation was docketed as FF-V-18-0052.
The Ombudsman required Cadagat to submit certified true copies of the documents he attached with his letter.
Cadagat said BCGEU’s activitywas not even held in a hotel – like the Christmas party of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City in 2017 – but its budget reached P8 million.
PCSO’s budget was only P6 million, Cadagat stated in the letter.
BCGEU’s activity was only held at the Bacolod City Government Center with foods served like siopao, chicken inasal and pork adobo, among others, Cadagat stressed.
He added that job order workers were also given gift packs during the activity.
Atty. Allyn Luv Dignadice, president of the BCGEU, said they have yet to pass a financial report on the year-end activity to the Office of the Mayor.
After passing such, they will also submit a fund utilization report to the Commission on Audit, she added.
City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan refused to give comment on the issue./PN
