MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, GlobalPort Batang Pier and Phoenix Fuel Masters will aim for crucial wins at the close of the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Facing off in the opening game at 4:30 p.m. are Batang Pier and Fuel Masters, while Kings will tangle with quarterfinals-bound Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the second game at 7 p.m.

Fuel Masters (4-6) needs to defeat Batang Pier for at least a chance for a playoff for the eighth and last quarterfinals slot. A loss will eliminate the team from contention.

For Batang Pier (5-5), a victory over Fuel Masters will secure it a slot in the best-of-three quarterfinals while a defeat could relegate it to a twice-to-win disadvantage over the top two teams.

Kings (5-5) must win over Painters to land a spot in the quarterfinals. A loss can drag the team to a twice-to-win disadvantage or even to the playoff for the eighth spot.

Painters (6-5) was assured of a place in the best-of-three quarterfinals. A victory over Kings may push it to fourth place while a loss may slide it to sixth place.

Curiously waiting on the outcome of the games today are TNT KaTropa and Blackwater Elite, both 5-6, to determine their placing heading into the quarterfinals./PN
