BACOLOD City – Businesses renewing their permit will have to pay a 25-percent surcharge now that city hall has closed the hub that facilitated faster license processing.

The Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) at the Bacolod City Government Center has ended. It was set up only from Jan. 3 to Feb. 28, said Permits and Licensing Division head Stella Rose Rayos.

The BOSS gathered in one place all local government departments and agencies that issue requirements for business permit processing or renewal.

Business owners were encouraged to avail themselves of the BOSS service to get a 10-percent discount in the processing cost.

A total of 19,007 businesses registered from January to February this year – a 10.80-percent increase from the 17,154 in the same period last year – according to Rayos.

Rayos said they might be able to surpass this year the more than 22,000 business registrations recorded in the entire 2017.

But effective March 1 all businesses applying for business permit renewal will pay the 25-percent surcharge, or penalty, the PLD official said.

The surcharge is not applicable for new business permit applicants, she clarified.

The BOSS was supposed to end on Jan. 20 but it was extended – via a Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution – to Feb. 28 following appeal from the business community.

In another development, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office has intensified its campaign against “colorum” tricycles, said Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, office head.

Acebuche disclosed this during a meeting of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association at the Bacolod City Police Office yesterday.

Colorum tricycles are those that ply the streets but not registered with the local government./PN
