CERES Negros hopes to keep its record untarnished as it plays host to Shan United of Malaysia in the Group stage of the AFC Cup tonight at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City. Game time is 7:30.

Currently the Negros Occidental-based squad is on top of Group F with 4 points (one win, one draw) while Shan United (3 points on one win, one loss) aims for a second win.

This is the second time the teams are facing off this year. In January, the Philippine team prevailed over the Malaysians via penalty shootout in the second round of the AFC Champions League Qualifiers.

Ceres Negros avoided its first loss of the season after settling for a 1-1 draw with Home United of Singapore last week on a late-second-half conversion by the Spanish Manuel Herrera.

Shan United, on the other hand, recovered from an opening-day defeat as it cruised to a 2-1 win over Beoung Ket Angkor of Cambodia on conversions from Christopher Chizoba and Dway Ko Ko Chit.

ā€œWe expect a very hard game (tonight),ā€ said Ceres Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic.

ā€œIn the Champions League, we had good games, but we need to adjust here,ā€ he added. ā€œEvery game is very important in the Group stage so you cannot give points away.ā€/PN
