BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental was becoming a transshipment point of illegal drugs, especially shabu, an official of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office said.

Illegal drugs were being channeled to Negros Occidental before they were shipped to other parts of Visayas and Mindanao, said Superintendent Glenn Provido, deputy director for operations.

Drugs traffickers pass by the province as they transport illicit substances usually sourced from Metro Manila, Provido said.

Meanwhile Provido said they have confiscated 3.33 kilos of shabu since Oplan Double Barrel Reloaded was launched.

They have also arrested “several” high-value targets, Provido said but he was unable to provide figures.

A total of 1,200 drug dependents have surrendered while 1,100 have undergone rehabilitation, he further claimed.

Currently the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office was monitoring 693 individuals in its drug watch list, said Provido./PN
