ILOILO City – Two Ilonggo topped the 2018 Physical Therapist (PT) board examination.

Top 1 Kevin Ceroriales Bordones and Top 9 Jayson Nandin Montinola, both graduates of St. Paul University-Iloilo, received citations and P5,000 and P3,000 cash incentives, respectively, from the city government.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III honored the two during Monday’s city government flag-raising ceremony at Plaza Libertad.

“We are proud of what these professionals have achieved. They manifest that Ilonggos are smart and excellent in their chosen fields,” said Espinosa.

Bordones obtained a rating of 85.75 percent while Montinola got 84.45 percent.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) administered the exam last month.

The 22-year-old Bordones said he was overwhelmed by the result.

“I still could not comprehend everything but I am happy. I made my school and Iloilo City proud,” said Bordones.

Before taking the exam, Bordones said he felt a little bit pressured because of the expectations of people around him.

Bordones, whose sister is also a PT, said he only wanted to work like her, but after his internship, he got to love the idea of being a PT and helping others, especially stroke patients.

“I want to give what I can do to my patients and also to the PT community because it seems that not everybody knows what PT is. I want the people to know who we are, what are we doing and how can we help them,” Bordones added.

There were institutions in Manila that offered work to him but Bordones said after he takes his oath he plans to work abroad to support his family.

According to PRC, 588 out of 1,017 examinees passed the PT licensure examination while 139 out of 212 passed the Occupational Therapist Licensure Examination last month.

Maria Angela Gonzales Gutierrez of the University of the Philippines in Manila topped the Occupational Therapist board exam with a rating of 81.6 percent.

San Pedro College-Davao City was the top performing school in the Physical Therapist licensure exam with a 96.08 percent passing rate.

Cebu Doctors University, meanwhile, achieved a 100 percent passing rate in the Occupational Therapist licensure exam. (Merianne Grace Ereñeta, Iloilo City PIO/PN)
