ILOILO City ā Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) inspected two ongoing infrastructure projects in Malay, Aklan: the Boracay Circumferential Road and Caticlan Airport Access Road.
Villar did the inspection along with DPWH undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, DPWH regional director Wenceslao LeaƱo, Jr., DPWH officer-in-charge assistant regional director Jose Al Fruto, and Aklan District Engineer Noel Fuentebella.
The Boracay Circumferential Road project, with a P50-million budget, involves the construction of a two-lane, six-meter wide carriageway including curb and gutter, drainage, sidewalk and street lighting.
These developments will fill the missing gap on the circumferential road.
Fruto said the Boracay Circumferential Road project will help ease traffic congestion on the main road and thus reduce travel time from the Jetty Port to various areas in Boracay.
āBy completing the gap, the backdoor route of the circumferential road will be optimized, likewise serving as the logistics corridor wherein transport/delivery vehicles will ply particularly in and out of the piers,ā Fruto added.
The Caticlan Airport Access Road, on the other hand, involves the establishment of a new road extending 2.745 kilometers (km).
The project is divided into two phases with a total allocation of P220 million.
Phase 1 includes the construction of a 1.845-km road worth P80 million while Phase 2, the the opening of a .90-kilometer road worth P140 million.
The Caticlan Airport Access Road, when completed, is seen to boost ecotourism in areas from Nabas to Caticlan.
Fuentebella said the road projects will make the transfer of goods and services easier, thus increasing productivity and profitability in Malay.
āMonitoring these projects should be conducted regularly to ensure that the implementation will go smoothly,ā Fuentebella said. (With DPWH Region 6/PN)
