ILOILO City – One hundred twenty-five crew members of motorboats plying the Guimaras-Iloilo route underwent an unscheduled random drug testing on Tuesday.

The tests were done at the wharf in Buenavista, Guimaras by the Municipal Health Office.

The crew members were earlier told they would have a meeting there at 9 a.m. but were surprised that it was actually an unannounced drug testing.

They were asked to submit urine samples, said Senior Inspector Jefrey Ferrer, Buenavista police chief.

“We only tested 125 out of over 200 boatmen,” said Ferrer.

All tested negative for illegal drug use.

Ferrer said the test was part of the Buenavista police’s and local government unit’s efforts to keep the municipality drug-free.

There are approximately 56 motorboats plying the Buenavista, Guimaras – Iloilo route. They have over 200 crew members.

The next target for drug testing are motorcycle and jeepney drivers, said Ferrer./PN
