BACOLOD Tay Tung High School continued to bolster its girls volleyball squad with the acquisition of five new players.

Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice president for sports, told Panay News yesterday they have secured 5-foot-7 middle blocker Kianne Louise Olango, one of the top elementary volleybelles in Cebu.

“Kianne is a welcome addition to Tay Tung,” Montalbo said. “At 12 years old, she already won a number of personal trophies and is already 5-foot-7. May itataas pa ito at may potential.”

Aside from Olango, Thunderbolts have also tapped 5-foot-9 middle blocker Althea Brean Maria Cabradilla, Mae Basarte, IC Cepada, and Francis Mae Flores.

“These players are great additions to [us],” Montalbo said. “Since these players ay under 14 years old, we will put them first on our aspirants team before moving them to the seniors squad.”

Olango, who has played for Colegio del Santo Niño, said she took the offer to play for Tay Tung without hesitation.

“We know naman that Tay Tung is one of the best volleyball teams in Western Visayas,” she said. “I see [playing there] as an opportunity for me to improve further.”

Thunderbolts is one of the winningest volleyball team in the region. It has recently captured gold medals in the WVRAA and the WVPRISAA meets to represent the region in Palarong Pambansa and the National PRISAA Meet, respectively./PN
