BACOLOD City – A day after his 55th birthday, a village chief in Manapla, Negros Occidental was found dead, a police report showed. He was believed to have committed suicide.
Barangay Poblacion 2 village chief Gil Parreñas was found with a rope tied around his neck hanging from a beam in his house around 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Older brother Romulo discovered Parreñas’ body after he destroyed the jalousie windows of the house, police said.
Romulo told the police that he went to Parreñas’ house around 6 a.m. that day.
He knocked on Parreñas’ door but no one answered. That was when he decided to break in.
Parreñas’ was suffering from pneumonia, police said. He had also told his family that he will be going to a far place.
