BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts will try to extend its winning ways when it represents Visayas in the Akari National High School Volleyball Championships from March 17 to 18 at the Adamson Gym in Manila.

Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice president for sports, told Buzzer Beater their stint in the two-day tournament will be a good exposure for their volleyball squad against the tough teams in Manila and other places.

“Magandang exposure ito para sa mga players, especially matitinding teams ang makakalaban namin dito,” Montalbo said. “Definitely we will give our best to keep in step with the teams.”

Marianne Sotomil, one of the veteran players of the squad, said the team is good to go for the competition following their extensive training under the auspices of head coach Ian Macariola.

“We will definitely make Visayas proud. We are really determined to perform well in this tournament para hindi masayang ang pinaghandaan namin,” said Sotomil who is headed to the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons later this year.

Also part of the Thunderbolts team are Shane Carmona, Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Monares, Joan Doguna, Beatrice Decena, Jeanny Padilla, Nohlin Jundana, Marixi Maligmat, Kiesha Bedonia, Rhean Almendralejo, and Erika Deloria.

The elimination round in the tournament on March 17 will be race to 35 points with no deuce, while the semifinals and championship on March 18 will be best of five sets with deuce.
