MANILA – De La Salle University Green Archers guard Brent Paraiso insisted that he was not using illegal drugs even as two drug tests he took showed contrasting results.
Paraiso – who was on leave from the team along with teammates, brothers Rashleigh and Ricci Rivero – admitted in a statement posted on Twitter on Monday that he took two drug tests.
He submitted urine samples for a La Salle-mandated random drug testing on Jan. 16 and 18.
Testing positive in the Jan. 18 test, Paraiso was forced to take another drug test with a Department of Health-accredited testing center on Jan. 22. The result was negative.
“While it appears to have different results from two separate testing centers from samples taken within just two days – I am publishing my personal DOH-accredited result for everyone to verify. I confidently stand by my position that I did not take those drugs,” said Paraiso.
“You can clearly see and tell if someone is addicted to methamphetamine,” Paraiso said.
“I attended our rigorous trainings every day and never missed classes. I am out in public every single day where you can all see my physical features,” he said. “Almost anyone can identify a drug user without any scientific tests – more so if we’re talking about an addiction to shabu.”
He added: “From here alone, I don’t need to rebut further. There are more details to this story but I do not feel the need to expose the injustice I’ve received either. I simply want to clear my name and put all rumors to rest.”
Last week Ricci also spoke to clarify that he was not on drugs. He, his brother and Paraiso were rumored to have been booted out of Green Archers for drug use.
Their coach had said Green Archers will not have the three in its UAAP Season 31 campaign – despite recent claims that they were not on drugs./PN
