ILOILO City – A former robbery convict had been arrested in Barangay Kasing-kasing, Molo district – for an alleged drug offense.

Gil Pabriaga, 51, faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Pabriaga sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover operative for P1,200 during a buy-bust operation at 9:30 p.m. on March 12, a police report showed.

Officers of the Molo police station and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 seized from him 16 more sachets of shabu valued at P20,000 and P600 cash believed to be drug sale proceeds.

A resident of Barangay Mabini, Sara, Iloilo, Pabriaga was the leader of the “Black Liston Gang.”

The robbery group that operated in the city and province of Iloilo ties its victims using a black shoelace, police said.

Pabriaga was convicted for robbery in 1998 and detained at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. He served his sentence and was released in 2016.

On June 5 last year, police arrested him for wielding a knife while at the Chief Justice Ramon Q. Avanceña Hall of Justice but he was able to post bail.

Pabriaga’s companions during the buy-bust – Mark Deraco, 31, and Eugene Occeña, 30, of Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao – were arrested, too.

Pabriaga further yielded a .38 homemade revolver loaded with six live bullets while another .38 homemade revolver with three live bullets was seized from Deraco.

Operatives also recovered two mobile phones and a black Rusi motorcycle from the suspects.

Pabriaga claimed that the shabu seized from him were “planted.” While admitting that he was once with the Black Liston Gang, he denied engaging in drug trafficking.

But Senior Inspector Marlon Valencia, Molo police chief, refuted this.

Valencia claimed that Pabriaga was in their watch list of drug suspects for his alleged involvement in the drug trade since 2016.

“Pabriaga … was trading in our area (of responsibility),” said the police officer. “We are investigating his other crimes and source of illegal drugs.”

Pabriaga and his companions were detained at the Molo police station custodial facility. (With Ian Paul Cordero/PN)
