BACOLOD City – Six people have expressed intent to run for directorship in Districts 2, 3 and 7 of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).
The elections will be held on March 24.
Incumbent directors Jojit Yap of District 3 and Dwight Carbon of District 7 were seeking reelection unopposed.
Four people have filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for the directorship in District 2, said Roel Venus, chief of Ceneco’s Member-Consumers Integrated Services Division.
The filing ended on March 14.
Venus refused to disclose the names of those seeking the position in District 2 pending screening of their COCs.
The term of incumbent District 2 director, Arnel Lapore, was ending, Venus said.
Lapore has been serving as District 2 director for three terms, with three years for each term – or a total of nine years.
The result of the screening will be released today, Venus said.
District 2 covers southern Bacolod City. District 3 includes central Bacolod City while District 7 straddles Murcia and Salvador Benedicto towns.
REFERENDUM
Meanwhile, Venus said his department was tasked to hold after the directorship elections an information and education campaign on the planned referendum on the status of Ceneco.
The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has ordered all nonstock electric cooperatives to hold a referendum – in compliance with the NEA Reform Act of 2013 – to decide whether to:
* remain a nonstock, nonprofit electric cooperative under the NEA
* convert into a stock cooperative under the Cooperative Development Authority; or
* convert into a stock corporation under the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The referendum may be held during the Annual General Membership Assembly next month but the consumer-members will have to decide on that, Venus said.
Meanwhile Ceneco announced there will be power interruptions on March 16, 17 and 18 in some parts of the city to give way to maintenance activities./PN
