ILOILO – The dream of the residents of three upland barangays in Lambunao town to have their road paved with cement has been realized.

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) turned over on March 15 a newly completed seven-kilometer farm-to-market concrete road from Barangay Agsirab to barangays Bagongbong and Caguisanan to the local government of Lambunao.

The project amounting P57.6 million was implemented under the Agrarian Reform Communities Project (ARCP) II of the DAR.

The Asia Development Bank (ADB) allotted 50 percent of the project cost and the remaining 50 percent came from the local government of Lambunao.

DAR undersecretary Rosalina Bistoyong graced the turnover ceremony.

The provincial government shared a counterpart fund of P8 million to the municipality of Lambunao which shelled out P19 million for the project.

Mayor Jason Gonzales said people in barangays Agsirab, Bagongbong, Caguisanan and in the nearby Jayubo could now travel conveniently and safely and they could now easily transport their agricultural products to the town proper.

In the past it took farmers almost half day to bring their agricultural products to the town proper, loading them on carriages pulled by carabaos.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said the project would drastically change the lives of people in three villages. (Erly Garcia, Capitol News/PN)
