SAN JOSE, Antique – Farmers in Antique were able to harvest 12,070 metric tons of palay as of February this year, according to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).
Ma. Lourdes Fortaleza, OPA rice report officer, said last month there were 3,692 harvested rice fields in 17 towns in the province, except Caluya, yielding an average of 3.27 metric tons of rice per hectare.
Caluya had no harvesting activity in February, the OPA reported.
Libertad posted a relatively low production of rice (392 metric tons) due to the strong winds brought by tropical storm “Urduja” that affected the flowering stage of the palay.
Culasi also posted a relatively low rice production, with only 2,100 metric tons from its 745 hectares of rice fields. This is due to natural calamities, rat infestation and other rice plant diseases, the OPA said.
In January, Antique was able to produce 36,199 metric tons of palay from 11,463 hectares of rice fields.
The average yield per hectare that time was 3.16 metric tons. (With PNA/PN)
