ILOILO City – Registration of voters for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election will only run for exactly 10 days, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Region 6.
Regional Director Dennis Ausan yesterday appealed to qualified SK voters to register within the 10-day period from Sept. 20 to 29.
“Those who will turn 15 and below 18 years old on or before Feb. 21, 2015 can register,” said Ausan.
The SK election is slated on Feb. 21, 2015.
The 10-day period includes two weekends to accommodate students who have classes on weekdays and who come home only on weekends.
Meanwhile, the regional director clarified that those who registered last year for the cancelled October 2013 SK election and still qualified or not more than 18 years old on or before the day of the election don’t need to register again.
On Sept. 5, Comelec passed Resolution No. 9899 setting the period of registration.
The SK election was supposed to take place last Oct. 28, 2013 to synchronize with the barangay election.
However, President Benigno Aquino III signed Republic Act 10632 on Oct. 3, 2013 postponing the SK polls to give way to the proposed amendments to the SK legislation.
In going to their respective Comelec offices to register, applicants must bring documents like certificate of live birth, baptismal certificate, school records, school identification cards or any other documents that will establish their identity./PN
