KALIBO, Aklan – A truck ran over a car while navigating the road in Sitio Musdac , Barangay Unidos, Nabas, Aklan, killing one person and hurting eight others, a police report showed.
Police Officer 3 Zaldy Belen of the Nabas police station identified the fatality as the 64-year-old Reynaldo Haberia of Caloocan City.
Haberia was seated beside the truck’s driver’s seat when the accident happened, investigators said.
It was around 11:50 a.m. on March 26 when the Kingsu Glass and Aluminum Supply-owned truck driven by the 31-year-old Jose Corpuz of Navotas City overtook a tricycle and rammed into the car that the 44-year-old Apollo Barrios Jr. of Barangay Old Buswang was driving, police said.
Corpuz lost control of the vehicle, according to Nabas police chief Senior Inspector Jerick Vargas.
The truck was bound for Kalibo while the car was off to Malay, Aklan, Vargas added.
Among those who were injured were truck passengers Ariel Olayta, 31, of Caloocan City, Reynan Apan, 26, of Surigao Del Norte, Aldrin Verde, 35, of Tondo, Manila, Randy Velasco, 33, of Pangasinan, and Roger Casidsid Jr., 23, and Dimson Pardeno, 35, both of Navotas City.
Personnel from the Malay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Nabas municipal police station and the Metro Boracay Task Force responded to the accident.
Barrios, Corpuz and the truck passengers were rushed to hospitals in Kalibo and Ibajay for treatment. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
