Agriculturist shot to death in Sipalay

BACOLOD City – Two men riding in tandem fired at a man and his live-in partner on board another motorcycle at Crossing Bado, Barangay Montilla, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

The 54-year-old agriculturist Ben Sumagaysay of Barangay 2, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental died, a police report showed.

Sumagaysay’s live-in partner Gigi Fernando, on the other hand, was unhurt.

According to investigation, the gunmen – who were wearing jackets, fatigue pants and bonnets – waylaid Sumagaysay and Fernando and fired at them around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sumagaysay, who sustained gunshot wounds on the body, was rushed to the Merceditas Montilla District Hospital in Barangay Canturay, Hinoba-an where the attending physician pronounced him “dead on arrival.”

The gunmen fled after the shooting, police said.

Recovered from the crime scene were two live bullets and two empty shells of a shotgun and an empty shell of a .45-caliber firearm, police said.

Police were still identifying the suspects and the motive in the shooting./PN
