State news agency head to grace Negros Press Club event

BACOLOD City – The head of the Philippine News Agency (PNA) will be the guest of honor in the upcoming induction and oath-taking ceremony of the Negros Press Club (NPC) next week.

PNA Undersecretary Jose Joel Egco, also the executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, will grace the event set to start at 6:30 p.m. on April 11 at the SMX Convention Center in the city.

Egco is expected to discuss in his speech NPC’s theme this year: “Standing for the Truth, Safeguarding Free Press.”

Now celebrating its 82nd founding anniversary, the NPC has elected another set of officers:

President: Renato Duran (reelected)

Vice president: Erwin Nicavera

Secretary: Dolly Yasa

Treasurer: Glazyl Masculino

Auditor: Elsie Jolingan

Directors: Chrysee Samillano, Edgar Lucasan, Aquilino Ciocon, Jemlo Victosa, Merlinda Pedrosa, Eric Magbanua, Owen Bayog Hernand Garciniego, and Martian Muyco.

Before working in the government, Egco was the chief of reporters and the assignments editor of Manila Times, one of the reputable newspapers in the country.

Egco was also the president of the Quezon City Press Club, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of National Defense Press Corps, director of the Alyansa ng Filipinong Mamamahayag, secretary-general of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists, commissioner of the Department of Tourism’s Commission of Sports Scuba Diving, president of the National Press Club of the Philippines, and chief of staff of the DILG Undersecretary for Legislative Liaison, Public Affairs and Special Concerns.

The NPC is one of the oldest press clubs in the Philippines. It currently has about 200 active members./PN
