BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod is encouraging all Bacolodnons to support the celebration of Earth Day 2018 in the city on April 22.
Councilor Sonya Verdeflor authored an approved resolution urging locals to participate in the annual event which this year – with the theme “End Plastic Pollution” – aims to provide “information and inspiration needed to fundamentally change human attitude and behavior toward plastic.”
Earth Day is the single biggest environmental celebration in the world participated by more than 150 countries and over a billion people worldwide, the resolution stated.
Verdeflor said plastic pollution “poisons and injures marine life,” litters “our beaches and landscapes,” and clogs “our waste streams and landfills.”
She added that the growth of plastic waste is “now threatening the survival of our planet,” thus we must take actions to fight it./PN
