Team Iloilo settles for silver in Dagupan beach volley

TEAM Iloilo’s Dhannalyn Mae Demontaño and Jackielyn Estoquia settled for second place in the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) National Championship at the Tondalingan Blue Beach in Dagupan City.

The pair failed to clinch the championship after a 12-21, 14-21 defeat at the hands of Tagum-PNP’s Police Officers 1 Karen Quilario and Lourdilyn Catubag over the weekend.

Negrense Bea Tan and Maria Rosario Soriano of Team Seafront Residences took home the third place trophy after defeating Floremel Rodriguez and Therese Ramas of Asian Volleybalistas.

On their way to the finals, Demontaño and Estoquia defeated Rodriguez and Ramas, while Quilario and Catubag scored an upset over Tan and Soriano.

Aside from receiving cash prizes, the 2018 BVR National Championship winner will advance to the FIVB World Tour hosted by BVR in Manila next month.

Other participating squads in the women’s division were Gizelle Tan and Raprap Aguilar (Perlas), Angeline Gervacio and Kassie Gormley (Wakanda), Judy Caballejo and Coyah Abanto (Airforce 1), Jen Manzano and Jozza Cabalsa (Airforce 2), Babylove Barbon and Genesa Eslapor (UST1), Derie Virtusio and Ranielle Rosales (UST2);

Carissa Yvette Martinez and Jane Diaz (Navy), Maria Nieza Viray and Maria Jeziela Viray (San Beda), Bianca Lizares and Jennifer Cosas (FASTCAT), Jaylene Lumbo and Glyka Medina (EAC), Bianca Tripole and Marijo Medalla(Perpetual), and Debbie Dultra and Coline Malana (Perpetual).

In men’s play, Cebu’s Jade Becaldo also made it back-to-back national titles, teaming with Calvin Sarte to beat University of Visayas’ Kevin Juban and Raphy Abanto in the final 21-17, 21-13./PN
