LIVING Stones International School finally barged into the win column of the 2018 Brother’s Cup Volleyball Tournament after a 25-9, 25-17 sweep of Don Bosco Victorias at the University of St. La Salle gymnasium in Bacolod City.

Behind the tandem of Krisha Cordero and Cassie Carballo, Living Stones was dominant from start to finish as it took its first victory in the tournament on Tuesday after a 0-2 start.

Living Stones started strong in the first set behind Cordero and Brianna Titular for an early lead. The edge grew to double figures later on with Don Bosco committing numerous errors.

It was the same situation in the second set – Living Stones surged to an early double-digit lead before thwarting Don Bosco’s late runs with hits from Cordero and Carballo.

“It was a huge relief for us to finally take our first win,” Cordero said. “Unlike in our past few matches, our minds are no longer preoccupied because isang league na lang iyong focus namin.”

Meanwhile Bacolod Tay Tung High School’s unblemished run came to an end after a straight-set defeat to Hua Ming.

Missing a number of players to Palarong Pambansa, Tay Tung suffered its first defeat in four matches as it groped for form against the opponent.

“We are not making excuses, but we just lack personnel,” said Tay Tung assistant coach Biboy Calamba.

“Some of our key players were not present, but good thing those who remained are stepping up and giving a good fight,” he added./PN
