ILOILO City – The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Visayas has alerted the public against unscrupulous persons passing themselves off as officials or personnel of the agency.
In a recent public advisory, Regional Director Helen Catalbas specifically disowned certain Jonel Cortez Lancisco alias Gregg C. Macaraig.
Lancisco “is not in any way connected or has been temporarily employed with the DOT Region 6, Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City,” stressed Catalbas.
Lancisco was reportedly 35 years old and from Barangay Dayao, Roxas City.
According to Catalbas, Lancisco was using DOT’s name in fake marketing activities such as discount cards for transport, accommodation, tours, and shopping.
The director said her office was “not condoning this act of defrauding the public in the guise of tourism.”
“We are doing our best to protect the good name of the industry here in Western Visayas and the entire country,” said Catalbas.
She urged the public to immediately alert the authorities about individuals or groups who have similar activities as Lancisco’s./PN
