GSIS should increase monthly pension, too, says Bacolod dad

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) wants Congress to pass a bill that would increase the monthly pension of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) pensioners.

The SP believes it is time to raise the GSIS pension now that prices of basic commodities have increased under the new tax reform law.

Resolution proponent Councilor Renecito Novero cited the current administration’s move increasing by P1,000 the monthly pension of Social Security System (SSS) pensioners.

Novero lamented there was never any upward adjustment in the GSIS monthly pension “for several years now.”

“With the continuous [and] the impending increases in the prices of basic commodities, the money received by GSIS pensioners cannot sustain their daily needs,” part of the resolution stated.

Novero found it unfair that GSIS beneficiaries were not enjoying the same pension increase as SSS pensioners.

A copy of the resolution would be sent to the Office of the President, House of Representatives deputy secretary general Atty. Alan Tan, Senate secretary Atty. Lutgardo Barbo, GSIS president and general manager Jesus Clint Aranas, and the GSIS Board of Trustees./PN
