BACOLOD City – Fifty-five couples tied the knot during a mass ceremony at the municipal covered court in Isabela, Negros Occidental.

Mayor Joselito Malabor solemnized the ceremony dubbed “Kasalan ng Bayan” on Friday.

The mass wedding was part of the Ati, Bukidnon, Tumandok Festival in the town from April 15 to 21.

Malabor told the newlyweds to regularly read the Bible “to receive more spiritual blessings.”

He also stressed that God must be the center of every family.

The celebration was peaceful despite the lack of enough police personnel in the town.

Malabor said he requested additional police officers to secure the festival but none was sent.

The Isabela municipal police station has only 26 officers, including the chief of police.

Village watchmen and other security volunteers augmented the police force in maintaining peace and order during the celebration./PN
