BACOLOD City – Voters must elect public officials who are “matino, mahusay at maaasahan” (upright, capable and dependable), said Director Ma. Joy MaredithMadayag of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bacolod field office.
Madayag’s statement came as the May 14 synchronized barangay and SangguniangKabataanelections approaches.
Since last month, the DILG has been campaigning for the electorate to vote for the “right leaders” who possess the three qualities.
DILG secretary Eduardo Año stressed that voters must not only exercise their right to suffrage come election day, but also “chooseleaders who possess these three minimum qualities that are important to carry out meaningful peace and development initiatives.”
“Ito pong mgakatangiannaitosanaanghanapinnatinsaatingmgaibobotongpinunongatingkomunidad,” added Año.
In Bacolod, villages were ordered to hold their respective barangay assemblies so that the DILG can conduct its voters’ education campaign.
But out of 61 villages in the city, four have yet to conduct their barangay assemblies. These are barangays 33, 36, 38, and 39, Madayag said.
Madayag added that the villages are given until the end of the month to hold their assemblies.
If not, they will be facing administrative charges for violating the Local Government Code, she stressed./PN
