MANILA – Western Visayas continued with its gold medal haul in the PRISAA 2018 National Games with strong performances in taekwondo, athletics and table tennis in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Cindy Joy Diasnes spearheaded WV’s campaign in taekwondo with three gold medals in secondary girls individual b poomsae, team poomsae and mixed pair with Shiela Tungala on Wednesday.
John Patrick Palonpon also bagged a gold medal in secondary boys individual b poomsae before settling for silver with Xyrus Andrei Desierto in the team poomsae event.
WV also got golds in kyorugi from AJ Diasnes Horlador III in secondary boys, 51 kg; Angela Bermejo in secondary girls finweight; Czarylle Faye Dinero in secondary girls and Jieben Lark Recabar in secondary boys, 49 kg.
The Blue Barons taekwondo jins also had silver medals from Desierto in individual a poomsae, and secondary kyorugi players Mary Grace Belisario (46 kg), Dyne Lisao (52 kg), Jotham Gancero (open weight), and Shaianne Hojilla (48 kg).
WV continued to rake gold in athletics courtesy of Joyme Sequita in the 400 meters hurdles, Rowill Derecho in 200 meters, Renzy Gemolaga in discus throw and javelin throw and bronze in shot put.
It also swept the secondary table tennis team golds with J Allan Gayoso, Den Importante, John Baria, and Joshua Chavez winning the boys and Jan Ashley Vicencio, Ann Nicole Oliva, Thalia Gomez and Levee Marie Oliva ruling the distaff side.
WV also had one gold and two silvers in secondary boys tennis with Marco Macalintal finishing first in singles, and Jon Dreve Jemenea and the duo of Nikhel Nowlakha and John Benedict Santiago in doubles./PN
