ILOILO City – The city government held an “Achievement Day” for 37 children-in-conflict with the law (CICL) sheltered at the Balay Dalayunan: A Home for the Boys in Bo. Obrero, Lapuz district.

The activity recognized these youngsters for showing good moral values during their rehabilitation.

“I would like to congratulate you for doing your best while inside Balay Dalayunan,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

Of the 37 CICLs, two were involved in carjacking, four in frustrated murder, three in rape, eight in robbery, seven in theft, and 13 in drug trafficking.

Espinosa advised them to be good when they leave the center.

Among the awards given were Batang Masipag, Batang Masunurin and Batang Maka-Diyos.

The awardees were given medals and certificates.

“This is the first time for Balay Dalayunan to hold an Achievement Day. It gave these children the experience of what it feels like to get an award,” said Center head Elizabeth Sevilla.

She thanked the city government for supporting Balay Dalayunan.

“While the CICL are under our custody, we give them values formation activities, skills training, tutorials, sports activities, and medical check-ups until such time that the court has released a decision on their cases,” said Sevilla.

Balay Dalayunan caters to CICLs from 15 to 18 years old. (Merianne Grace Ereñeta, Iloilo City PIO/PN)
