2018 NAT’L PRISAA: Team events push WV gold harvest

MANILA – Gold medal finishes in team events pushed the gold medal haul of Western Visayas up in the PRISAA 2018 National Finals which formally closed yesterday in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The WV softball team, represented by Central Philippine University Golden Lions, claimed its fourth consecutive softball crown via an 8-4 victory over Region 12 in the finale at the Holy Name University Diamond.

Among those who stood up for WV, a seven-time PRISAA champion, were MVP awardee Twedle Samson, best pitcher Geia Lyn Dechosa and stolen base Jeizl del Rosario.

WV also captured a gold medal in secondary girls 4×400 meter relay courtesy of Negrense May Therese Gula and Capiznons Piepet Prebillo, Joanna Marie Basea and Kim Villaruz.

Also having golden finishes were WV secondary girls volleyball team represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, and tertiary squad composed mainly of players from CPU Golden Lions.

WV also nabbed a gold medal in the secondary girls chess team event and a silver in secondary boys chess team event.

Checy Aliena Telesforo delivered gold in chess individual secondary girls category while Kris Oswald Olvido had a bronze in individual secondary boys.

Failing to land medal finishes in the chess individual secondary girls and boys events were Cherisse Hope Gomez, Jovelyn Sepanton, Glydelle Casa, Diomel John Escutin, Gil Casa Jr., and Jan Kristan Bedia.

WV maintained its lead in the medal tally of the secondary division with 116 gold, 59 silver and 37 bronze medals.

The region was at third place in the tertiary division with 51-51-55 medal haul./PN
