Who can get ‘unconditional’ cash aid?

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Social Welfare department continues to validate social pensioners in the province.

The social pensioners – locals aged 65 years old and above who are not recipients of any pension from other government agencies – are entitled to the P2,400 Unconditional Cash Transfer, or UCT, for this year.

Social pension staffers from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6 are visiting Government Service Insurance System and Social Security System branches in Antique to check names of senior citizens.

The social pensioners will get the P2,400-per-year UCT if they are not getting GSIS or SSS pension and the DSWD finds them adversely affected by the increase in the prices of commodities due to the TRAIN Law.

The UCT aims to “cushion the impact of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law,” said Diadem Pearl Tamara of the DSWD-6’s Secretariat for the Regional Convergence Committee.

“Our validation in the region started in March, and we hope to finish by May,” said Tamara.

In Western Visayas, 300,000 social pensioners are receiving a regular social pension of P1,500 per quarter from the DSWD, Tamara said.

She could not specify the number of Antique recipients.

The list of validated social pensioners qualified to receive the UCT will be sent to the DSWD central office for the processing of the aid, Tamara said. (PNA)
