Bacolod village chiefs accused of ‘politicking’

BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the barangay captains claiming that his administration is biased are “politicking.”

Several barangay captains are complaining about what they claim as the seemingly partisan” means by which the city government distributes cash assistance, among others.

Sila nagapamulitika,” Leonardia said. “Gali kay indi ko nila kursunada, mareklamo sila? Indi ta pagpunggan ang pangserbisyo sa banwa.”

Thirty-six barangay captains signed a manifesto against the Leonardia administration to be submitted to the Office of the Mayor, the Commission on Elections, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

These barangay captains have not received financial aid from city hall worth between P140,000 and P320,000, according to Barangay 7 village chief Bernabe Sibug.

Bacolod has 61 barangays. Sibug is one of the complaining barangay captains. They said the city government failed to explain why they were not granted the financial aid.

The cash aids are intended for cleanup activities, including drainage de-clogging, in the barangays, as provided for under Resolution 411 that the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved on April 4.

Leonardia said 25 barangay captains were granted the financial aid because they requested it and they met the requirements.

He said barangay captains who are friends with him were not given the aid because they did not ask.

Leonardia believes somebody is goading these barangay captains to against him./PN
