ILOILO City – Boat trips between this city and the island province of Guimaras may be extended beyond 10 p.m. during the Manggahan Festival slated from May 11 to 22.
The provincial government of Guimaras requested the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) to allow this.
But Juliette Nacion, Marina-6 senior maritime industry development specialist, said they are still waiting for the applications from operators of motorboats in Jordan and Buenavista.
The operators are the “proper entities” to request the extension. The governor’s request will only support it, Nacion added.
But “not all vessels will be allowed,” stressed Nacion.
Only vessels with nighttime schedules and would undergo inspection will be allowed to operate beyond 10 p.m., she added.
“These vessels will undergo random inspection to check their lighting for sea worthiness,” Nacion said.
She added that their office will issue special permits if the vessels are already identified. (With PNA/PN)
