A HIGH school standout from Western Visayas is in “hot water.” He made a commitment to a Manila based school (HST 1) without seeking the approval of his school in the province (HST 2).
A source told the Buzzer Beater that an official of HST 2 is determined to make it hard for the high school player to transfer especially if he did not pay his “debts” with the school.
“Hindi talaga nagustuhan ni (official of HST 2) ‘yung ginawa ng pamilya ni player dahil bukod sa nakipagnegosasyon sila sa (HST 1) nang hindi nagpapaalam ay may kasunduan sila,” said the source.
The source added: “Bago pumasok si player sa (HST 2), may kasunduan na hindi siya pwedeng lumipat ng school unless college na siya. Policy ng school talaga ‘yun, hindi lang sa basketball kundi pati sa ibang sports.”
“Magaling rin kasi si player kaya kahit Grade 9 pa lang siya talagang hinahabol-habol na siya ng mga scouts from Manila. Actually ang dami nang kumontak kay (official of HST 2) tungkol kay player pero lahat sinabihan maghintay na grumaduate si player,” according to the source.
“Kaya talagang nag init ang ulo ni (official of HST 2) nang malaman niya na lilipat na si player sa (HST 1). Bilang ganti, iipitin talaga nila ‘yung papeles ni player especially kung hindi ito makabayad sa lahat ng ginastos sakanya ng school,” the source added.
According to the source, “Magsilbing aral na din sana ito sa (HST 1). Hindi porket may resources sila, pwede na nila makuha lahat ng players na gusto nila. Minsan may proseso ‘yan at hindi rin dahil nasa probinsya lang ‘yung school kaya na nilang i-bully.”
“Ang tawag kasi roon ay respeto. Palibhasa kasi si (HST 1) mapa-high school or college team nila sanay silang mamili ng players. Maganda rin na once in awhile ay makatagpo sila ng katapat nila,” the source added.

Volleyball squads from Bacolod and Iloilo will banner the 4th Jose G. Montalbo Invitational Volleyball Tournament from May 18 to 20 at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School covered court.
Among the Bacolod-based teams in the competition are Tay Tung teams A and B, Living Stone International School, Trinity Christian School, Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod and University of St. La Salle.
Also in the competition are Iloilo-based Bingawan Selection, University of San Agustin-Iloilo, Ateneo de Iloilo, and Pontevedra Selection.
Negros Occidental’s Murcia and La Carlota City will also send a representation.
Completing the 15-team field are Don Bosco-Dumaguete, Ateneo de Cebu and Assumption Antipolo (Rizal province).
Opening the tournament is the matchup between Bingawan and Ateneo de Cebu.
Guest speakers for the opening on May 18 are University of the Philippines Lady Maroons head coach Godfrey Owese Okumu and Bacolodnon-native Ma. Arielle Estranero.
“In the past few editions, only teams from Bacolod, Iloilo and Negros are participating here. I am glad that this year, teams from Cebu and Antipolo have participated here,” said Jose Montalbo./PN
