ILONGGO players dominated the 2018 National Age Group Chess Championships from May 5 to 12 at the Capiz Gymnasium in Roxas City.
Cyril Felrod Telesforo of the Iloilo Provincial Chess Association (IPCA) claimed the overall championship in Under 16 boys while Queen Rose Pamplona of Passi City topped the Under 12 girls.
Checy Aliena Telesforo (IPCA) placed second in Under 14 girls while finishing first runners-up were Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem (IPCA) in Under 18 girls and Ruslan Pamplona of Passi City in Under 8 boys.
Settling for second runner-up finishes were IPCA players Vaughn Robert Oberio in Under 8 boys and Muellene Ymber Leving Babao in Under 10 girls.
Reynald Tejero, also of Iloilo, failed to land on the top three of Under 16 boys.
The top three finishers in each category earn a slot in the 2018 ASEAN Chess Age Group Championship, which will be held from June 18 to 28 in Davao City./PN
