Public cited for helping keep election peaceful

BACOLOD City – The synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Monday in Negros Occidental was “generally peaceful,” according to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo).

Nocppo director Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr. also said the conduct of the polls was “successful.”

Castil thanked the public for its active participation in ensuring safety during the election day.

He said untoward election-related incidents were immediately reported to them.

Castil also thanked the participation of force multipliers, government agencies and nongovernment organizations who helped in carrying out a peaceful election.

The provincial police head said they “gave their full commitment and cooperation in serving the people.”

Castil commended the media for its “eager” dissemination of information to the public, like public safety tips and reminders.

The media also provided the police with information that aired the concern of the public, Castil said.

“The police are the community and the community is the police,” Castil stressed.

For her part, City Election Officer Mavil Sia said the Bacolod polls was conducted peacefully.

Ballots boxes and other election paraphernalia were delivered to and retrieved from polling centers on time, she added.

These were now under the custody of the City Treasure’s Office, which is in charge of their safekeeping./PN
