Should a college degree be made a requirement for those running for public office?
No, it should not be a requirement although may benefits gid man kun may degree. Pero kun ang lack sang degree nga na ang hinder or limit sa isa ka person nga may passion, desire, willingness, talent kag heart nga maghatag sang iya service, then itβs better na indi na mangin requirement. β KEITH REED, student, Santa Barbara, Iloilo
Yes, because being a public servant is not just all about leadership. It is also a profession. Just like any other job, public office requires adequate and appropriate knowledge for one to perform well. β NIEGIL LIBO-ON, Political Science student, Central Philippine University
Para sa akon indi gid dapat because ang degree wala man ga-define gid sang tawo when it comes to politics. If you are willing to serve the people and passion mo ya ang magbulig, why not βdi ba? β JESSA BETH GONZALES, Accountancy graduate, Pavia, Iloilo
Yes! Dapat gid para may ihibalo sila sang gina obra nila. β JOSEPHINE MALLADA, Teacher III, Janiuay, Iloilo
Qualification wise, it is favorable for candidates to have at least a college degree but sometimes the measure of public service goes beyond oneβs educational attainment, rather his/her capabilities and knowledge. Not all knowledge is taught in the classroom. β FEL DAVID JANOLINO, employee, local government unit of Pavia, Iloilo Β
Yes, but not necessarily. Candidates need to have a better grasp of politics so they have to be well-educated. But experience is the best teacher. β GRACE FANAN, employee, Cuartero, Capiz
Taxi fare hike
BY CAMILLE BRASELINO
West Visayas State University β College of Communication
What can you say about the increase in taxi fare?
As a call center agent nga usually gasakay sa taxi, I can say that the flag down of P40 and additional rate per kilometer is too high. I hope the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board could conduct a special meeting regarding this concern and find ways to lessen the taxi fare. β JETHRO CAIGOY, 22, call center agent, Iloilo City
β RANDY RAMOS, 40, taxi driver
As a fresh graduate, siyempre sakit sa bulsa eh, wala na daan allowance unlike before nga may budget pa, and I am still unemployed.
Maperdi na sila kun amo man gihapun ila metrohan. β REGINALD JOHN MABASA, 14, student, Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, Iloilo City
Una sa tanan, nagtaas man presyo sang gasolina. Tani maintindihan man sang mga commuters. Pareho man lang kami gapangabuhi insakto.Β β SILVERIO BLANSE, 43, jeepney driver
β ROWEL DEXTER ACUΓA, 17, student, AMA College
