Should barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials have salaries and benefits similar to municipal government officials?
No. Mas mataas ang level sang municipal kesa sa barangay kag mas heavy ang duties sang ara sa municipal. That’s all. – MIDES MONTERO, health worker, Zarraga, Iloilo
No. In the first place dako ya scope nga cover sang municipal officials kag dako ila responsibility compared sa barangay officials. – RICHARD NOEL BADILLA, Education student, West Visayas State University
Yes, because they are also officials of our country and they also do their job. The difference is that they are just leading a small unit or what we call barangay. – QUIN GOMER DELLERA, Sangguniang Kabataan chairman-elect in Arevalo, Iloilo City
Based on their performance and nature of work, I am not in favor, unless barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials will be reporting to office every day and perform their duties and responsibilities faithfully. One thing more, corruption and vote-buying during elections will be unstoppable. – JOSEPHINE SAPORNO, teacher, Batad, Iloilo
Nope, kay dako ya na sakop sang municipal. They are serving the whole municipality while ang barangay limited ang area, less responsibilities compared to municipal officials. – CHESTER LOUIE SEQUIO, Sangguniang Kabataan chairman-elect in Barangay Balabag, Santa Barbara, Iloilo
Should the National Food Authority import rice?
Yes. NFA has a shortage of rice stocks intended for release during natural calamities. And according to President Duterte mas better ang sobra kay sa kulang which for me is true naman. The imported rice will be used for unexpected calamities. It’s always better to be prepared than sorry. It’s not that really harmful when we import rice. – JOANNA OLAER, 20, Engineering student, Central Philippine University
Absolutely yes even though we have alternative solutions. It is a practical solution to rice shortage. Let’s import rice. – JAYSON VALDERRAMA, 20, Architecture student, Iloilo Science and Technology University
No. We will be needing billions of pesos for this. Why spend that much if we can wait? If I am not mistaken, Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco stated that by the end of the month, 325,000 metric tons of rice will be harvested. We can save and allocate these billions of money to other concerns of the Philippines. – DWIGHT JUSTINE BRASELIÑO, 18, student, West Visayas State University – Pototan Campus
Indi na guro ah. Indi man gani namon mabatyagan nga may shortage sa bugas. Kadamo kag kalapad sang palayan sang pungsod kag ang iban nga lugar gani gabakal pa sa aton. Basi may sala lang ang NFA eh or indi gani may corrupt da nga official nga luyag i-hoard ang supply para magmahal presyo. – WENG ZAMORA, 46, rice retailer, Iloilo City
Agriculture is the backbone of the Philippine economy. How ironic that an agriculture-based economy imports rice. Our agriculture industry has the capacity to produce adequate rice. However, there’s a lack of support from our national government to improve farming practices and encourage people to engage in this economic activity, thus the rice shortage. – MARIZ BASINDANAN, 20, Education graduate, University of Iloilo-Phinma
