
ILOILO City – Police caught one of the three suspects in attacking a beverage distributor in Barangay 1, San Miguel, Iloilo.
Hermie Ambani, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Alimodian town, was a former employee of the victim, police said.
Ambani and two others were accused of hitting and robbing the 54-year-old Nicholas Aluba of Barangay Concepcion, San Miguel.
A distributor of Pepsi products in his town, Aluba was confined at Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district for the treatment of his wounds on the head, left shoulder and mouth.
Police identified the two other suspects as Jemer Calambro of Alimodian, a former driver of Aluba, and a certain “Rey” of Janiuay town.
Aluba was sitting inside his warehouse at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 when the suspects barged in, struck him with a hammer, grabbed his sling bag containing P120,000 cash, and fled, the San Miguel police chief Senior Inspector Francis Albert Fortunado said, citing investigation.
Police arrested Ambani in his house at around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Calambro and “Rey” remained at large as of this writing.
Ambani denied involvement in the crime.
Investigation revealed that his former employers were angry with Aluba for not giving them salary, Fortunado said.
Officers were still searching for the two other suspects. All three suspects face robbery and frustrated murder charges./PN
