ILOILO City – From Dec. 5, 2017 to May, 14, 2018 712 drug personalities were arrested across Western Visayas, data from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) showed.
During that period, 311 bet collectors of illegal numbers games were caught, too.
The PRO-6 also identified 1,391 drug personalities in that five months and these suspects were all subjected to tokhang (visited in their respective houses and asked to stop their illegal activities) but only 490 voluntarily surrendered to the police, said PRO-6 spokesperson Superintendent Joem Malong.
She urged the 901 to voluntarily surrender.
“They could not escape. We are monitoring them,” said Malong.
With the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections over, the police could once again focus on the campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling, said Malong.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, chief of the PRO-6’s directorial staff, said the cleansing of the regional police organization would also proceed.
“We cannot implement the law without cleansing our ranks first,” said Canieso.
He added: “Commanders will be held liable for the misdeeds of their subordinates. It is the commander’s moral responsibility to guide his personnel to the right path.”/PN
