ILOILO City – Fake news. This was how City Administrator Hernando Galvez dismissed reports that he had resigned.
“I see no reason to resign,” Galvez told Panay News.
Galvez took a three-day leave last week. Assistant Department Head II Vincent Dela Cruz served as officer-in-charge of the City Administrator’s Office.
Mayor Jose Espinosa III, too, dismissed the reports.
“Where did that come from? That’s black propaganda,” he said.
Galvez became the city administrator in July 2016. From the City Legal Office, then mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog appointed him to the post.
When Espinosa became the mayor following Mabilog’s dismissal from government service in October 2017, he reappointed Galvez.
“I’ve been faithful to my oath as city administrator. My service ends only when my appointing officer has lost confidence in me,” said Galvez yesterday.
Espinosa said he has trust and confidence in Galvez.
“I find serving as administrator of our city mayor fulfilling,” said Galvez.
Espinosa and Galvez apparently knew each other from way back – when the now mayor was the city legal officer.
“Si Atty. Galvez, sang sa legal pa lang ako, researcher na siya. Siling ko sa iya kwa ka gid Bar exam. Asta subong, maayo gid,” said Espinosa.
Galvez has been a city hall employee since Jan. 3, 2000. He started as a casual worker (utility man) during the administration of then mayor Mansueto Malabor. He was then a first year law student at University of Iloilo.
Before he was appointed legal officer III at the City Legal Office, he was promoted by Malabor to legal assistant I on March 5, 2001.
Later, then mayor Jerry Treñas appointed him legal assistant II, and Mabilog eventually appointed him assistant II.
Galvez finished his law studies in 2003 and passed the Bar exam in 2008./PN
