MANILA – Negros Occidental-based tracksters chipped in two more gold medals as they ended their campaign on the fourth day of the 2018 Philippine National Games at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Trexie dela Torre of Negros 1st Team claimed her second gold medal in the competition Wednesday after tallying a personal best of 12.09m in the youth division triple jump. She earlier won gold in long jump.
Ann Katherine Quitoy captured Negros 1st Team’s final gold medal in the competition after ruling girls javelin throw with a 41.78m heave. The Negrense wept after she was denied an attempt on her last heave.
The Negros 1st Team ended its campaign in the weeklong tournament with seven gold, four silver and four bronze medals.
Quitoy told Panay News after the competition that the organizers denied her a sixth and last attempt, which she wanted to perform in the hopes of breaking her personal record.
“Hindi lang naman po ako sumali sa Philippine National Games para manalo ng gold medal. Gusto ko ring ma-break iyong personal record ko,” said Quitoy on the 45.72m record she made during the recent Palarong Pambansa.
“Kaya gustung-gusto ko sana gawin iyong sixth attempt ko kaso hindi na ako pinayagan ng organizers. Sayang iyong opportunity,” added the incoming Grade 12 student of Romanito P. Maravilla National High School.
