ILOILO City – A suspected gunrunner was arrested in an entrapment on JM Basa Street.
The 43-year-old Enrico Anado of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district was detained at Police Station 1.
He faces charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and the election gun ban.
Officers staged the operation at 8:30 p.m. on May 21.
A poseur buyer bought from the suspect a K9 sub-machine gun for P25,000, said Superintendent Jonathan Pablito, Police Station 1 chief.
Anado resisted arrest but was eventually subdued, Pablito said.
Police seized the K9 sub-machine gun with two magazines.
Pablito said they learned that the suspect was a former employee of a gun store in the city that recently closed shop.
“(Anado) may have found difficulty looking for another job and resorted to gunrunning using his knowledge in dealing firearms,” said the officer.
According to Pablito, the suspect told them someone asked him to sell the firearm but refused to disclose a name. He also claimed it was his first time to deal a gun.
Pablito said they were digging into the identity of the suspect’s supplier./PN
