Espinosa cousin running for barangay Liga prexy

ILOILO City – Barangay Captain Pascual Espinosa IV of San Juan, Molo district announced he was running for federation president of the Liga ng mga Barangay.

The cousin of Mayor Jose Espinosa III is clashing with Barangay Captain Irene Ong of President Roxas, City Proper.

Ong had served as federation president of the Liga in the past.

“Tilawan ta man ang aton kapasidad. Kon mahimo sang iban, ngaa indi ta man pag obrahon? Himuon ta ang ikasarang ta agud masabat ang problema sang kaupod nga mga kapitanes,” said Espinosa yesterday.

The Liga federation president serves as ex-officio member in the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

There are 180 barangay captains in Iloilo City. Espinosa did not say how many would be supporting him.

“Masyaran ta man sila kag istoryahon. Ihambal ko sa ila ang mga plano ko, plataporma kag kon ano maayo sa amon,” said Espinosa.

But despite being the mayor’s cousin, the barangay captain insisted no big politico is backing him up.

Ong is reportedly the favored candidate of Cong. Jerry Treñas who recently claimed to have the support of 165 barangay captains should he run for mayor.

“Depende na sa kaupod ta sa barangay. Nakaagi man sila kay Kap Irene sang una, subong kun kita tagaan man nila tsansa, testingan man nila. Tagaan man ko nila ligwa bilang presidente sa kabilogan,” said Espinosa.

Espinosa served as barangay captain of San Juan, Molo from 1994 to 1997 and from 2002 to 2013.

He ran again in the recent election and won.

“Kaagi man ko Board of Directors sang Liga,” said Espinosa.

He said he is eyeing Barangay Captain Roland Montelibano of Tabucan, Mandurriao as his running mate for Liga vice president./PN
