WHAT PEOPLE SAY

STL in Iloilo

Should Small Town Lottery operations in Iloilo province resume?

INDI dun ah. Kay amu man gihapon nga gambling na. Biskan may lisensiya na, still gambling. Daw ga-tolerate lang sila sang sugal.MEDEN ESPINOSA, 43, resident of Barangay Lopez Jaena Ward, Pototan, Iloilo

Mayo man tani kun manggaranon kay may kwarta sila panglingaw pero ang pigado nga wala kwarta kag gataya pa, daw gina into lang sila.VIRGILIO PEREZ, tricycle driver

Indi.

– MELLISA SAMILLANO, housewife, La Paz, Iloilo City

Failure to vote

What’s your take on President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision not to vote in the recent barangay election?

HE’S scared to offend his supporters. Instead of voting for the person he thinks is the best for the position, ‘di na lang siya bumoto. Takot siyang mabawasan ng supporters. In politics kasi, number is power.” – ELENA DIAZ, 54, Seminary and Institute Secretary

EVERONE has the right to exercise his/her right to suffrage but voting is not mandatory. In the case of the President, he is a very busy man. Perhaps there were more important matters to attend to. – BRYAN CASAIG, 20, Journalism student

President Duterte wasn’t able to vote because he was busy with his obligations for our country. Or perhaps he did not want to take sides in his barangay. I think it’s alright.” – MITZI GIALOLO, 20, Medical Technology student

I think it was for the best. The number of people hanging on to President Duterte’s words are astounding. Him not opting to vote conveyed a sense of equality to all candidates, making the people choose who they think deserves their vote and not simply follow blindly whoever the President chooses.” – JOSE EMMANUEL ALILING, 20, Journalism graduate

I’ve read from a national broadsheet that that all candidates running were his friends. I think being friends with the candidates is actually a good thing; you know them – who has better leadership skills, who has a bigger heart for service, etc. He’s a Filipino and he missed his chance to exercise his right to vote. – “TWINKLE”, 22, Medicine student
