ROXAS City – The Brigada Eskwela 2018 kicked off yesterday.
In this capital city, the pre-school year cleanup activity was launched at the Don Ynocencio A. Del Rosario Memorial School in Barangay Dayao.
The brigada is a weeklong activity, slated from May 28 to June 2. It aims to gather education stakeholders to help in preparing public school facilities for the opening of classes this June, said Roxas City Schools Division Superintendent Roel Bermejo.
“Over 40,000 students in public elementary, secondary, and senior high school were enrolled last year. We expect an around 5-percent increase in our enrollees this school opening,” Bermejo told Panay News.
He added that “[i]n terms of teacher requirement, the school principal now determines the need for teachers based on the number of students enrolled in a public school.”
For this school year, Bermejo said they hired additional teachers for the elementary (42), junior high school (28), and senior high school (6).
He added that Roxas City has “more than enough” classrooms.
There are 47 villages in the city, with 39 elementary schools and 24 secondary schools divided into three districts.
“Ang mayo subong kay ang Division Office na ang nagahimo sang project proposal para sa pagpatindog sang mga academic classrooms. These proposals are submitted to the DepEd Regional Office and likewise forwarded to the DepEd Central Office for approval,” said Bermejo.
This year, the brigada is themed “Pagkakaisa Para sa Handa, Ligtas at Matatag na Paaralan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan.”
Various stakeholders, including the Parents-Teachers Association, local government officials, barangay officials, and members of the private sector, among others, joined a motorcade which led to the brigada opening ceremony.
