‘Helper threatened me, stole my cash!’

ILOILO City – Her helper threatened her and stole her cash, a resident of Barangay Airport, Mandurriao district told the police.

She gave stay-in helper Joebert Francisco, 38, of Barangay General Hughes, City Proper P36,000 to pay her debt, Jen Valle reported to the Mandurriao police station at 6:30 p.m. on May 27.

Valle said she was expecting Francisco to pay a storeowner at the Mandurriao public market – Otay Colon, 55, of Barangay Oñate De Leon in the district – at around 10 p.m. on Feb. 26. She said she gave Francisco the money at 11 a.m. on Feb. 25 yet.

But Francisco did not, a police report stated.

Instead, Valle said she later learned, the helper bought from Colon’s store five reams of Marlboro cigarettes worth P4,000 and sold them to a store owned by one Marivic Demaala.

Police referred the case to the barangay lupon.

At around 4:30 p.m. on May 27 – some two hours before Valle reported to the Mandurriao police – the complainant also reported Francisco to Police Station 1 for “threats and oral defamation.”

At around 11 p.m. on May 26, Valle told Police Station 1, she approached Francisco at the Iloilo Fish Port in Barangay Baybay Tanza and asked him about a “threat” he made.

Francisco got irked and hollered at Valle, “Diputa ka nga biga-on ka, tampaon kag tapungulon ta ka karon,” the complainant said.

Valle further claimed that Francisco grabbed a stone and attempted to strike her with it but was pacified.

This incident caused her “humiliation, great fear and anxiety,” Valle said.

Police referred the dispute to the barangay lupon.

Francisco cannot be reached for comment as of this writing. (April Grace R. Padilla, Intern/PN)
