P2.3-B infra projects for Bacolod City this year

BACOLOD City – Infrastructure projects worth about P2.3 billion will be implemented in this capital city until the end of the year, according to City District Engineer Abraham Villareal.

The budget came from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which gave P1.5 billion, and the Department of Education, which gave P786 million.

Among these projects are construction of school buildings, roads, and drainage and flood control systems.

According to Villareal, the construction of some school buildings has already started.

Meanwhile, the DPWH Region 6 has recently conducted its monthly coordination meeting at Sugarland Hotel in the city. Several top DPWH officials in Western Visayas attended.

During the meeting, the DPWH announced that the Bacolod City Engineering District ranked No. 1 in the region for implementing projects from January to May this year.

The Bacolod City Engineering District has a 56-percent physical accomplishment rating, the DPWH added.

The Bacolod City Engineering District also ranked No. 6 in terms of absorptive capacity in the national level. It has an 82-percent rating.

Villareal said the Bacolod City Engineering District was the only engineering district in Western Visayas that was included in DPWH’s absorptive capacity national ranking.

It was also Bacolod City Engineering District’s first time, he added.

According to DPWH secretary Mark Villar, the absorptive capacity and disbursement rate are bases to determine the allocation of a region or district in future budget years.

Villareal said they are expecting a higher budget next year because of this.

Villreal also thanked Rep. Greg Gasataya for his support to all infrastructure projects in Bacolod./PN
